Dealers are selling illegal tobacco from their homes as a way of making easy cash. They'll even sell to kids.
Some areas in the North of England, particularly the
North East, have seen a huge rise in the number of illegal 'tab
houses' - houses that sell cheap illegal cigs that
are either smuggled or fake.
Some people think that tab houses help our community by
providing cheap cigarettes. What they don't realise is that these
houses make it even easier for our kids to start smoking and bring
unwelcome visitors to our streets.
The people running tab houses don't care who they sell to and
there's evidence that children as young as eight are being targeted
by dealers who see them as a source of easy cash.
