Some good news

HM Revenue and Customs recently published their latest report on
the market share of illegal tobacco. The results are good news.
Illegal cigarettes now make up an average of 10 per cent of the
total number of cigarettes smoked in the UK, down from 13 per cent
the previous year. And the size of the market for illegal
hand-rolled tobacco is down too, to 46 per cent from 50 per cent
the previous year.
The fight against illicit tobacco is working, thanks to the
concerned efforts of everyone working together - HMRC, Trading
Standards, the police, people working in health teams and the
public themselves amongst others. This must continue, along with
all efforts to reduce tobacco use as a whole; after all, the sad
fact is that smoking will kill half of all its long term users
regardless of where the tobacco has been bought.
